ENG 100 Assignment #3: Film-Based Argument Due: Draft #1 due by 11:59pm 3/23 A Stop Of A Lifetime In the film, Survivor, screenwriter Philip Shelby writes about Kate Abbott’s struggles with saving America from terrorists attack. Abbott is a security service agent who loses members of her team in an explosion, who she later finds out that her own boss was involved in. As time lead on, people are killed and more secrets are let out. She learns of a plot where a sniper will shoot a gas bomb in Times Square in an attempt to kill innocent civilians on New Year's Eve. Abbott takes action into her own hands and tries to stop the man from shooting the gas bomb. The main point in the movie was that Bill, the father of the U.S trooper who was kidnapped in the beginning of the film, was secretly involved in the act of the bombing that was going to occur on New Year's Eve. Bill worked with illegal immigrants overseas and helped get a man into the United States. Since illegal immigration is only continuing to increase, America should allow muslim immigrants into the country because we should not prosecute people for religious beliefs and we should uphold our notions of a melting-pot culture with stricter security. First off, America believes in freedom of religion. Though, freedom of religion protects groups and individuals beliefs, many people do not follow it. In the article “The American Tradition of multiculturalism” it says that in the constitution, states that whoever comes into office and takes the role must follow the rules of allowing quakers and other groups to live their life with whatever religion they believe in. Everyone in our world should be treated as equals, not by their race, religion or ethnicity. If our country actually believed in multiculturalism, our country would be less judgmental about the different kinds of people in our world. People in our country should be supported as both a community and as individual people. Letting immigrants into our country will help those who were not able to find jobs in their old country, find new available jobs and some immigrants can also start their own businesses. It gives everyone an opportunity for success. In addition to freedom of religion, America believes in multicultural citizens. Races and religions should not be discriminated, but they should be treated as equals. Multiculturalism does not increase the separation of people, but it brings different kinds of people together as a whole. A cultures environment influences a person's personality, not their skin color or beliefs. As a country that believes in freedom of religion, multiculturalism is very beneficial. Immigrants that come into the United States will help create and work with businesses or any other jobs available. Living and working in the United States means that they will be paying for taxes and pay more money for living in the United States. Having immigrants come into the United States puts more money into the economy that could be used for education, road work, houses, and many more. Having more people in the country can be more helpful when thinking about the economy. Lastly, People in our society live in a world of fear and stereotypes. For example, when people see a muslim on the street, some people often think of a “terrorist” right away due to their ethnicity. When people see someone who is asian or chinese, they automatically believe that they are good at math. Stereotypes are taking over the world just because of someone's skin tone or belief. Why generalize? People all over the world have hidden or expressed skills and talents no matter what race, ethnicity, religion, or belief. Everyone around the world is equal and all have human qualities that races and beliefs cannot discriminate. In conclusion, America should allow muslim immigrants into the country because we should not prosecute people for their own beliefs, but we should support each other as a huge community full of different kinds of people. Purpose: to persuade Audience: Students, Teachers, Military, and Americans Focus: to identify the real problem in terrorism, to write about if you agree on having people come into the U.S. If they are not criminals Style: persuasive and conversational Over the last two days, I watched a movie called “Survivor” that was released in 2015. The movie took place in London. The movie started out in Afghanistan, when a man named Johnny who was an American soldier was captured by terrorists.
A woman named Kate, who worked for the U.S. embassy as a security service agent in London. Kate's job was to stop terrorists from getting into the U.S and to prevent any terrorist attacks to occur. A man named Emil Balan, from Afghanistan, started to get nervous when Kate started to question him about his travels. She later on does research and finds about more about the man. Emil Balan, still being nervous, plans to try and kill Kate. Kate's team planned a party at a restaurant for their boss Bill, who was Johnnys father. Both Bill and Kate showed up to the restaurant later than the others. Bill went back to his office to delete records he had on his computer that he approved visas for, for terrorists to come into the United States Because he was being blackmailed. Kate showed up late to bring her present to Bill, and suddenly finds herself in a quick and tragic situation. While being in the restaurant, a bomb was released by Emil Balan, in which blew up the entire place. Most of Kate's team was immediately killed, but Kate survived it. Kate started an investigation and did a lot of research to figure out who was the cause to the bombing. Later finding out that Bill was being blackmailed. Kate finds out that there is another bomb that is going to explode on New Years Eve in New York City, Times Square. Emil Balan planned to have the New Years ball to be filled with a gas that will blow up. When Bill had found out that Kate was starting to catch on to everything that was going on, Bill attacked Kate which resulted in Kate accidentally killing Bill. The man releasing the bomb kills Emil Balan. Moments before the bomb exploded, Kate took action. She managed to push the guy who was trying to set the bomb off, off of a building he was standing on. To critique the movie, I would like to say that they did a great job overall. I liked the way everything was set up. During the first bombing in the restaurant, it made those who were watching feel alittle attached to those who were killed. Towards the ending, the time before the bomb going off on New Years made my heart race and it kept me intrigued, wanting to see how the movie would end.
